This page tracks every Google algorithm update confirmed in 2027, with dates and rollout durations taken from the Google Search Status Dashboard. It refreshes twice a day, so it is current rather than a snapshot. Until Google confirms the first update of the year, the list below will be empty, and that is the correct state rather than an error.
No confirmed updates recorded for 2027.
What to expect, based on the record
Nobody knows what 2027 holds, including Google. What the record supports is a range, not a forecast.
| Year | Core | Spam | Other |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2021 | 3 | 3 | 5 |
| 2022 | 2 | 2 | 6 |
| 2023 | 4 | 1 | 4 |
| 2024 | 4 | 3 | 0 |
| 2025 | 3 | 1 | 0 |
| 2026 | 2 | 4 | 1 |
Two patterns are visible and both are useful.
- Fewer named updates than 2021 to 2023. Measured volatility has not fallen with them, which is why date matching works less well than it used to.
- Spam updates overtook core updates in 2026 for the first time, four against two.
The gap you are carrying into 2027
The May 2026 core update completed on 2 June, and Google confirmed no core update for the rest of the year through late October.
That matters for anyone demoted in May. Core ranking systems re-score during core updates, not continuously, so work completed over the summer may still be unassessed when 2027 begins.
The full context is in no core update since May 2026, and the live interval is on the core update countdown.
Policies already written that may be enforced
Google documents before it enforces. Site reputation abuse was written down in March 2024 and enforced from 5 May 2024.
Two things were documented in October 2026 with no enforcement announcement yet.
- Fabricated author profiles, now described as a form of deception.
- Unverified AI output, with manual fact-checking called critical.
That gap is where cheap fixes live. The full readiness list is in how to prepare for Google algorithm updates in 2027. Details in Google now calls fake author profiles deception.
How to use this page
- Match your drop date against the list above once entries appear. The date checker does it across every year.
- If no update matches, that is normal. Work through the seven causes of a drop with no update.
- Check the volatility sensor for movement Google never confirms.
Read 2026 in review for what changed last year. Previous years: 2026 and 2021.
How to read an entry when it appears
Each entry shows a start date, an end date and a rollout length. Those three numbers tell you how to measure, not how hard you were hit.
- Start date. When Google began rolling out. Your own drop may begin that day or several days later, as the update reaches more queries.
- End date. When Google said the rollout was complete. Rankings keep settling for some time afterwards.
- Rollout length. Core updates have a median of 14 days and spam updates a median of 7, based on every confirmed update since 2020.
Measure 28 days after the end date, against a baseline from before the start date. Anything earlier is reading a result that is still changing.
What counts as confirmed
Only updates listed on Google’s Search Status Dashboard appear here. Industry reports, tool volatility and forum threads do not, however loud they are.
That matters because Google also makes smaller updates it never announces. If your traffic moved and nothing is listed, the cause may still be an algorithm change, just not a named one. That diagnosis is covered in the seven causes of a drop with no update.
When the first update lands
- Change nothing structural while it is rolling out.
- Note the start date against your own daily Search Console data.
- Check the update type. Core and spam updates need completely different responses, covered in core update vs spam update.
- Wait for the end date, then 28 days, before judging the result.
An empty list is not a forecast. It means Google has not yet confirmed anything in 2027, which is the honest state of the record. The page fills itself from the dashboard as soon as that changes.
The record so far, for comparison
Recent years give a sense of scale. Google confirmed seven updates in 2026, four in 2025 and seven in 2024, plus one ranking incident that year. In 2026 spam updates outnumbered core updates for the first time, four against two. The full breakdown is in 2026 in review, and every year back to 2020 is on the update tracker.
Do not read a quiet start to the year as a signal. In both 2024 and 2025, the first confirmed update came in March after a quiet January and February.
Check the start date against your own daily data the moment an entry appears. The first week after a start date is when most people make changes they later regret.
If you were affected by a 2026 update and are still waiting, start with how long to wait before doing anything, which explains which systems reassess continuously and which wait for the next core update.
Where confirmation appears first
- Google’s Search Status Dashboard, the official record of ranking updates.
- Google Search Central’s social accounts, which usually announce a rollout the same day.
- This page and the update tracker, which sync from the dashboard twice a day.
For an email when something is confirmed, sign up on the update alerts page. Alerts for confirmed updates are sent as soon as the dashboard changes.
Until then, the most useful thing on this page is the method above, because it applies to every update the year brings.
