Google Algorithm Sensor: Live SERP Volatility Today

The Google algorithm sensor shows how much search results moved today compared with yesterday. High volatility across many industries at the same time is the earliest signal of an algorithm update, often days before Google confirms it. Use it together with the official update status to decide whether a traffic change on your site is a Google-wide event or a problem specific to your pages.

How to read SERP volatility

A reading between 0 and 2 is a quiet day. Between 2 and 5 is normal daily movement. Above 5, a large share of top 20 results changed position, which usually points to a Google test or an update rolling out. Above 8, the change is severe and almost always coincides with a confirmed core or spam update.

Volatility alone does not mean your site was hit. Check your own Search Console clicks and impressions for the same dates. If your rankings held but clicks dropped, look at AI Overview presence for your queries before assuming a penalty.
